GENERAL
Our Latin department represents the project's most extensive competition program with many additional free time fun activities, like ballroom dance galas and group clubbing in the city. You should be aware of one fact: This is our hottest category! Do you love the rhythm of Cha Cha Cha, the romance, the drizzling sparks of Rumba, swinging the hips in the Samba, rocking the house in Jive or seriously finding the Spanish feeling of a bullfight while dancing Paso Doble? Then we want to invite you to one of our Latin workshops in your area! (see below)
There are no restrictions regarding age or physical limitation. Members of this department dance depending on their level in one of the following 5 groups:

  • Newcomer [NEW]
  • Bronze [BRZ]
  • Silver [SIV]
  • Gold [GOL]
  • Open [OPE]

Those 3 digits in brackets will later appear in your member ID and after a while may change to a higher level as you're taking your career to the next level. You can select in your application in which group you would like to dance. However, for the OPE-level you would need to provide additional information. After your first workshop and recommendations from your instructor, you may change your level. If you plan to apply to the Advanced Dance Team (ADT), you have to be in one of the latter three groups.

THE WORKSHOPS
Workshops will take place at various dance studios in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens as well as at dance institutions all over the US and usually take around 3 hours in the evening on weekdays and on a few weekends. NEW and BRZ as well as SIV and GOL members may from time to time share workshops. Sometimes professionals will be also invited to those shared meetings, but usually have their own training times. This can be very helpful for the learning process. The NY Dance Project invites from time to time guest instructors for workshops - internationally renowned world-masters and choreographers.

You have to bring your own dance shoes and proper clothing! This means, girls bring their dance dress for the comps (only if available) and in any case wear either leg-free or close-fitting clothing and also boys need to bring their comp outfit (only if available) and else wear tight clothes, in order to easily work on hip movements! [Jeans are not recommended] Quick note: There will be no catering service unlike at our ADT meetings.

At the workshops you gonna have first the opportunity to work on basics as well as your program with advanced trainers. We'll then cut the big crowd into small groups who will work together. If you're interested in applying to the distinguished Advanced Dance Team (ADT) and depending on your level, you can then present your program. It is your choice if you'd need certain music. Otherwise, we'll help you out. You will then have the opportunity to participate in our competitions depending on your own level. Therefore we make sure that everybody has a partner. If you don't have a partner, no problem! One of our trainers will volunteer and rehearse a program with you. If you already know that you'll come by yourself, please note this in your application, so we can find for you a partner who's on the same level before you come to the workshops. Those comps could finally lead you to the ADT. Over the year, there'll be many different workshops offered. -- You will receive all details via e-mail.

THE ADVANCED DANCE TEAM
As soon as your admission to the ADT as been granted, you will be dancing in the Open class and work on a world masters choreography, which will later be performed on several events throughout the United States and will furthermore appear worldwide in the motion picture in 2010. As a department crossover performance, all ADT Latin members will dance at the world's most famous arena, the Madison Square Garden. Transportation and accomodation for all events will be covered by the NY Dance Project! Team meetings take place in your city once every week before an upcoming major event and are coordinated with every member. We insure that all meetings do not interfere with your weekly schedule!

Current ADT members include successful dancers from IDSF comps. We're constantly looking for new members. Apply Today!
