GENERAL
Would you like to go on tour with one of the leading recording artists or perform in a music video as a group dancer or simply just like to extend your dance background by studying the flow of Hip-Hop? Maybe you'd like to experiment with its basic rythms and techniques to mix with other styles? Then this is definitely a program you should check out!
Our Hip-Hop department represents the project's ultimate program with many additional free time activities, like street battles or group clubbing, and stands in very close collaboration with the Breakdance department. It is one of two department which primarily admits dancers of the advanced level. There are no restrictions regarding age or physical limitation. Members of this department dance depending on their level in one of the following 3 groups:
- Intermediate [INT]
- Advanced Intermediate [AIN]
- Professional [PRO]
Those 3 digits in brackets will later appear in your member ID and after a while may change to a higher level as you're taking your moves to a next level. You can select in your application in which group you would like to dance. PRO-level
means having extensive club and dance experience! After your first workshop and recommendations from your instructor, you may change your level. If you intend to apply to the Advanced Dance Team (ADT), you can be registered for any group.
THE WORKSHOPS
The NY Dance Project invites from time to time guest instructors for workshops - internationally renowned performers/choreographers, who have gathered touring experience with many in the business, e.g. Mary J. Blige, Omarion, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, 3LW, Ludacris, Kelis, Kanye West, Fergie or Busta Rhymes. These workshops take place at various dance studios, clubs in party atmosphere and of course on the streets of NYC as well as at dance institutions all over the US and usually take around one hour in the evening on weekdays and on a few weekends.
Basic grooves and techniques of various dances in Hip-Hop and its influences. • Routines from today's music videos. • Explore the rhythms and lyrics of the music. • Different Styles: breaking, popping, locking and krumping • "Go with the flow!" - Freestyle.
THE ADVANCED DANCE TEAM
As soon as your admission to the ADT as been granted, you will be dancing with the world's best dancers/choreographers and work on a spectacular
choreography ("MTV Style") — performed as a department crossover performance in collaboration with all ADT Hip-Hop members at the world's most famous arena, the Madison Square Garden, being live-broadcasted worldwide. Transportation and accomodation for all events will be covered by the NY Dance Project! -No matter if you're coming from the US or any other country.. Team meetings take place in your city once every week before an upcoming major event and are coordinated with every member. We insure that all meetings do not interfere with your weekly schedule!
