Welcome to our brief overview of the Ballet program! You will find on this page basic information for every level of dance experience. Please do not hesitate to contact our Ballet department via our support center for any additional questions or concerns!
If this is your first visit, please read our project introduction first!
GENERAL
Our Ballet department represents the project's biggest program with many additional activities. There are no restrictions regarding age or physical limitation. Members of this department dance depending on their level in one of the following 5 groups:
- Beginning [BEG]
- Advanced Beginning [ABE]
- Intermediate [INT]
- Advanced Intermediate [AIN]
- Professional [PRO]
Those 3 digits in brackets will later appear in your member ID and after a while may change to a higher level as you're taking your career to the next level. You can select in your application in which group you would like to dance. However, for the PRO-level
you would need to provide additional information. After your first workshop and recommendations from your instructor, you may change your level. If you plan to apply to the Advanced Dance Team (ADT), you have to be in one of the latter three groups.
THE WORKSHOPS
Workshops will take place at selected dance studios in NYC as well as at leading dance institutions all over the US and usually take around 2 hours in the evening on weekdays and on a few weekends. BEG and ABE as well as INT and AIN members will from time to time share workshops. Sometimes professionals will be also invited to those shared trainings, but usually have their own sessions. This can be very helpful for the learning process.
You have to bring your own shoes (slipper/pointe) and proper clothing! There will be also no catering service unlike at our ADT meetings.
At the workshop we're going to cut the big crowd first of all into small groups. Instructors will work together with you on basics and a small program leading to a new choreography. Depending on your level, you can then present a short prepared choreography. It is your choice if you'd need certain music. This option is foremost important for those of you who'd like to get admission to the ADT. Over the year, there'll be many different workshops offered. -- You will receive all details via e-mail.
